BLOWING ROCK — Town staffers are walking in the woods on Monday morning, July 18, searching for what can only be described as a catastrophic water leak. The entire town of Blowing Rock is without water and the central water storage tank that sits atop Green Hill Circle for the gravity-fed system is empty.

"At this point, we cannot estimate when the problem will be resolved and water service restored because we have not yet identified where the problem is," Town Manager Shane Fox said in a phone interview with The Blowing Rocket. "We are working as fast as we can to find the problem and get it fixed."

Fox surmised that because the tank is empty, the disruption is probably somewhere between the storage tank on Green Hill Circle and the water plant.

"This kind of disruption of our water supply is unprecedented," said Fox. "There are between two and three miles of a 12-inch water line between the water tank and Green Hill Circle. It makes sense that the problem is on that line, but we cannot rule out anything at this point.

"Anyone in town who notices an unusual flow of water should call us immediately," said Fox. "Meanwhile, was ask for everyone to remain patient while we get this sorted out."
